The 5th African Research, Scientific and Innovation Council (ASRIC) Congress was held on the 8th and 9th March, 2023 in Mombasa, Kenya under the theme “STI to Strengthen Food Nutrition, Health and Social Protection Systems to Accelerate Africa’s Socio-Economic Development “Human, Social and Economic Capital Development”.

The theme of the 5th ASRIC Congress was addressed and discussed during the Keynote addresses that focused on STI for Eco- Agriculture and STI for Agrobusiness and Agripreuneurship. The ASRIC Strategic Plan 2022 -2028 and the ASRIC Resource Mobilization Strategy were presented to the Congress during the Management and Governance session while Diaspora Chapters’ reports were presented during the same session.

The 4th ASRIC Congress was held from the 22nd to 25th November, 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya. The Congress was held in a hybrid mode with both physical and online presence of the participants in attendance. The Congress was preceeded by a Pre-Congress Session with the following sub-sessions: Scientific Session where presentations of Scientific Technical Papers that focused on the congress theme “Strategic Investment/Utilization of STI for Africa’s Economic Emergence”; ASRIC Flagship Project on Water for All; National Academies Dialogue; and the ASRIC Scientific Journals Management sessions. Also at this Congress a new ASRIC Bureau was elected and inaugurated.

The 1st ASRIC Engineering Conference on Engineering Sciences was held 6th – 8th September 2021 virtually. This conference is a call for Africa’s Engineering scientific community to lead the change and transformation by availing solutions and interventions to the challenges of Africa’s urbanization.

The Scientific Session of the 3rd ASRIC Congress meeting was virtually on the Zoom Conferencing platform, from the 17-18 February 2021.

The following countries were represented at the Congress: Nigeria, Kenya, Equatorial Guinee, Algeria, Morocco, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Cameroun, South Africa, Zambia, Namibia, Burundi, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, Uganda, Madagascar, Malawi, Sao Tome and Principe, Egypt, Djibouti, Angola, Congo, Sudan, Rwanda, Mauritania, Botswana, Togo, Mauritius, and Nigeria.

The 3rd ASRIC Bureau meeting was held in Rabat, Morocco from the 23-27 February 2020 with the following outcome:

The 2nd ASRIC Congress held in Abuja, Nigeria from the 20th – 23rd November 2019 with the theme; “Freeing Africa from Poverty, Hunger and Diseases”. The 1st ASRIC Bureau meeting was held in Abuja, Nigeria from the 7-9 March 2019 to discuss on the full operationalization of the ASRIC following the successful election of the Bureau and the outcome of the 1st ASRIC Congress in November, 2018. Considering the eminent role that the ASRIC would play in research and innovation landscape of the continent and in the strategic implementation of the STISA 2024, there is strong need for full functionalization of the ASRIC.

The First Congress of ASRIC meeting was held in Abuja, Nigeria from the 27-29 November 2018 during which, the launch of the ASRIC occurred.
