Effects of Lipton tea and 28-days detox slim tea on the reproductive hormones and hematological parameters of female Albino Rats

Lipton tea and 28 days detox slim tea are herbal teas which are commonly used for their health benefits and wide range of therapeutic effects. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the administration of hot water extracts of Lipton tea and 28 days detox slim tea on reproductive hormones and hematological parameters of female albino rats. Thirty-five (35) female albino rats grouped into 7 of 5 rats per group (A, B, C, D, E, F, and G) were used for the study. Groups A, B and C received daily oral doses of 1g, 2g and 4g per kg body weight of hot water extract of 28 days detox slim tea respectively while groups D, E and F received daily oral doses of 1g, 2g and 4g per kg bodyweight of hot water extract of Lipton tea respectively. Group G served as control. The administration lasted for 28 days. At the end of the experiment, haematological parameters as well as Estrogen and Progesterone hormones were determined using standard biochemical methods. The result showed that in all the treated rats, both tea extracts caused non-significant decrease (p>0.05) in Hemoglobin, Red Blood Cells, Platelet, Granulocytes, Hematocrit, White Blood Cells except in group D, Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration except in group C while there was a non-significant increase (p>0.05) in Lymphocyte, Mean Corpuscular Volume and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin when compared with the control group. For the reproductive hormones, there was non-significant increase (p>0.05) in groups B and C and non-significant decrease in group A in the serum estrogen level. Serum progesterone levels were non-significantly decreased (p>0.05) in groups A, B and C and non-significantly increased (p>0.05) in groups D, E and F when compared with the Control. Therefore, this study revealed that Lipton tea and 28 days detox slim tea did not cause significant changes in the reproductive hormones and hematological parameters evaluated.
