For decades, the problem of poor performance has been perceived as an important element caused by poor leadership style, making organizations to face leadership related challenges. These challenges were mainly identified in the area of poor consensus decision-making (consensual leadership), inadequate collective leadership, poor policy formulation and implementation. As a result, participative leadership, which supports employees to participate in the decision-making process of organizations, has received increasing attention in both theory and practice. This study examined “Emerging landscapes for participative leadership style on performance Nigerian police service commission, Abuja”. The sub-objectives of the study included to: examine the effect of collective leadership on performance of Nigerian Police service commission, Abuja, investigate the effect of consensual leadership on performance of Nigerian Police service commission, Abuja and assess the nexus between the participative leadership style and performance of Nigerian Police service commission, Abuja. The target population of interest in this study was 72 selected senior employees of Nigerian Police Service Commission, Abuja which also served as a sample size. The sources of data were primary sources and data were gathered through structured questionnaires. The study made use of descriptive research design. The findings included that there is no significant effect of collective leadership on performance of Nigerian Police service commission, Abuja, there is no significant effect of Consensual leadership on performance Nigerian Police service commission and there is no significant correlation between participative leadership and performance of Nigerian Police service commission. Therefore, the study concluded that high employee performance is achieved when leaders involve employees in decision-making through constant consultation. The study recommended that Participatory leadership style has been proved to be a very effective tool towards boosting level of performance of Nigerian Police service commission.
