Abstract

Many infectious diseases are mostly spread through droplets or contact with something that someone who is infected has had contact with. The World Health Organization played a major role in sensitizing the public to clean or sanitize their hands regularly to curb or reduce the risk of infection. Many attempts have been made to design a system that aids in consistent automatic hand washing and sanitizing, unfortunately, we have not seen one that combines the two in a single system. Hence this design dispenses water and sanitizer from different outlets using ultrasonic proximity sensors and a mechanism that opens its solenoid valve to allow water or sanitizer to flow when it senses the hand and closes the valve again after the hand has been removed without any contact. The design used an Arduino Uno microcontroller board based on the ATmega328, It's a 28-bit microcontroller board based on AVR RISC architecture. The Arduino was used to program the ATmega328P which has 32 pins connected to the ultrasonic sensor. Two storages were used to house the water and the sanitizer. Once the hand is detected at 5 cm pin 15 on the microcontroller is activated, current flows, and transistor 1 is switched to the ON mode, the relay which is connected directly to the battery comes on, voltage flows across it and it passes through the pump and the pump releases water or the sanitizer. This work designed an Automatic Water and Hand Sanitizing dispenser that is not difficult to use and manage in offices and malls. Keywords: Automatic Water Dispenser, Sanitizer Dispensing system, Ultrasonic proximity sensor, Arduino Uno, ATmega328P, hand washing and control system.
