Artificial Intelligence (AI) and e-governance are increasingly recognized as pivotal tools for enhancing public administration, especially in developing countries like Nigeria. This paper explores the integration of AI into e-governance within Nigeria’s public administration framework, focusing on how these technologies can transform government operations and service delivery. The study relies on secondary data and case study as a methodology. By leveraging AI, public administration in Nigeria stands to gain significant improvements in efficiency, transparency, and citizen engagement. AI can automate routine processes, provide real-time data analytics for informed decision-making, and offer personalized services to citizens, thereby enhancing government responsiveness. Despite the promising benefits, the adoption of AI in Nigeria faces several challenges. These include infrastructural deficits, such as unreliable internet and electricity supply, which hinder the effective deployment of AI technologies. Additionally, there is a significant skills gap, with a shortage of professionals capable of developing and managing AI systems. Ethical considerations, including concerns about data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the potential displacement of jobs, further complicate AI integration into public administration. The paper reviews current AI applications in Nigerian e-governance, such as biometric verification in elections and AI-powered chatbots for tax administration. It also provides recommendations for overcoming existing challenges, such as investing in digital infrastructure, developing human capital, and establishing a robust legal framework. By addressing these issues, Nigeria can harness the full potential of AI to improve governance and public service delivery, setting a model for other developing nations.
